Captain Shi looks like he stepped right out of the book.Casting is very good overall, and the series has a visual style that closely matches what I felt reading the books. It's ALWAYS better to hear the actors emote in their own language -- so it's fortunate that the subtitles are so good here.

I don't know if I will watch the Netflix version, but it's great to have a natively produced version where the intricacies of the concepts are better understood by the writers. I'm enjoying this series very much!

Fantastic! One of the most subtle, intelligent and authentic science fiction series I have ever seen. I bet the Netflix series will be of lower quality, the usual multicultural/multiethnic agenda with no personality of its own.

I've only seen 1/2 the first episode. it is faithful thus far to the novel, which is a GREAT novel. However, this adaptation suffers from many modern trends - lousy SFX, flashy but unnecessary camera motion, loud bangs on the soundtrack, rapid edits that aren't necessary. I feel like I'm watching a CSI: Las Vegas episode. I understand that modern audiences like flashiness, and the Netflix series will probably be more of the same. This Chinese version so far seems to be a by-the-numbers rendition. It's acceptable, but could have been brilliant. We're getting Phantom Menace here, not 2001: Space Odyssey. Watchable, but a missed opportunity...so far. I'll keep watching to see if it improves.

I'm in awe of this series. I honestly had no idea what to expect going in, but they have NAILED the vibes and themes of the book, and even improved upon the original story in some ways. I desperately want to see the entire series adapted by this team; this is a dream come true for fans.
